FRESH MEAL BOWLS

Daily Feeding Amounts

These portions are based on healthy, moderately active adult dogs eating Howl's as a complete meal — no kibble. Adjust up or down based on your dog's age, metabolism, breed, and activity level. When in doubt, start on the lower end and adjust based on body condition over 2–3 weeks.

Dog's Weight Daily Amount Approx. Cups Meals per Day
Up to 5 kg120–200 g¾ – 1¼ cups2
5–10 kg200–350 g1¼ – 2¼ cups2
10–20 kg350–600 g2¼ – 4 cups2
20–30 kg600–850 g4 – 5¾ cups2
30–40 kg850 g – 1.1 kg5¾ – 7½ cups2
40 kg+1.1 – 1.4 kg7½ – 9½ cups2

All portions are for complete fresh feeding. If using as a topper alongside kibble, reduce Howl's portion by 50% and reduce kibble by 50%. Always provide fresh water alongside every meal.

How to thaw your meals

Move your Howl's meal from the freezer to the fridge 24 hours before serving. Serve cold or at room temperature — never microwave, as this destroys heat-sensitive nutrients. Once thawed, meals keep for up to 3 days refrigerated. Do not refreeze.

Choosing the right bowl

Cluckin' Classic — our most popular. Ideal for dogs new to fresh food, sensitive stomachs, or any dog that simply loves chicken. The gentlest protein of the three.

Beef Benefit — richer and more protein-dense. Great for active, working, or larger breeds. Higher in iron and B-vitamins.

Ostrich Oasis — grain-free and hypoallergenic. Ideal for dogs with food sensitivities, skin issues, or weight management needs. South Africa's proudest protein.

SENIOR DOGS

Feeding older dogs

Senior dogs often need fewer calories but higher protein quality to maintain muscle. Start at the lower end of the recommended range and monitor weight monthly. Add a broth daily for extra hydration and joint support.

PUPPIES

Feeding puppies

Puppies under 12 months have different nutritional needs. Howl's meals are formulated for adult maintenance. Consult your vet before feeding fresh food to puppies under 6 months. For puppies 6–12 months, feed 1.5× the adult amount divided across 3 meals.

SWITCHING FROM KIBBLE

The Transition Guide

Moving a dog from processed kibble to fresh food is one of the best things you can do for their health — but rushing it causes digestive upset. Give their gut time to adapt. The slower the transition, the smoother the result.

01

Days 1–3

75% kibble, 25% Howl's. Mix thoroughly so your dog can't pick out their favourite. Watch stool consistency — some softening is normal and expected.

02

Days 4–6

50% kibble, 50% Howl's. Your dog's digestive enzymes are beginning to adapt to fresh food. Appetite may increase — this is normal.

03

Days 7–9

25% kibble, 75% Howl's. You may notice improved coat shine and energy levels beginning at this stage. Stools may firm up as the gut adapts.

04

Day 10+

100% Howl's. Full transition complete. Monitor weight over the first month and adjust portions up or down by 10% based on body condition.

What to expect during transition

Slow it down if you see this

If your dog has diarrhoea lasting more than 3 days, blood in the stool, vomiting, or significant appetite loss — pause the transition, return to 100% kibble for 2–3 days, and restart more slowly. Contact your vet if symptoms persist beyond 5 days.

LIQUID GOLD BROTHS

Broth Feeding Guide

Our broths are functional supplements — not meal replacements. Each one is built on the same clean wild salmon base, then layered with targeted active ingredients. Serve daily as a topper, a treat, or a hydration boost.

Dog's Weight Daily Amount How to Serve
Up to 10 kg30–50 ml (2–3 tbsp)Pour over food or serve alongside
10–25 kg50–100 ml (3–6 tbsp)Pour over food or serve alongside
25 kg+100–150 ml (6–10 tbsp)Pour over food or serve alongside

🍄 IMMUNE SUPPORT

The Longevity Broth

Best for: Senior dogs, dogs recovering from illness, post-vaccination support, or any dog whose immune system needs a daily boost. Reishi and Turkey Tail are the most studied medicinal mushrooms in canine health.

🌿 JOINT SUPPORT

The Movement Broth

Best for: Dogs with arthritis, stiffness, hip dysplasia, or any breed prone to joint issues. The turmeric, black pepper, and ginger trio works best given consistently over 4–6 weeks before full benefit is felt.

🌱 GUT HEALTH

The Gut Broth

Best for: Dogs with sensitive stomachs, dogs recovering from antibiotics, leaky gut, or any history of digestive issues. Slippery elm and marshmallow root coat the gut lining — serve for at least 3 weeks continuously for best results.

🧠 BRAIN HEALTH

The Brain Broth

Best for: Senior dogs showing signs of cognitive decline, dogs with neurological conditions, or any dog you want to keep sharp. Lion's Mane is the only known natural compound that stimulates Nerve Growth Factor (NGF). Results build over 8–12 weeks.

How to serve The Elixir

  • Always serve with or immediately after a meal — never on an empty stomach
  • Serve cold or at room temperature — do not heat
  • Stir or shake gently before serving as natural settling may occur
  • Mix into food or serve alongside in a separate bowl
  • Introduce gradually — start at half dose for the first 7 days to allow gut adaptation
  • Allow 4–8 weeks of consistent daily use before expecting full benefits — longevity supplements work cumulatively

Storage instructions

  • Thaw in fridge 24 hours before first use
  • Once open, keep refrigerated and use within 14 days
  • Do not refreeze once thawed
  • Natural colour variation between batches is normal — this is a whole-food product

A note on our formulations

All Howl's formulations have been reviewed by a qualified veterinarian. Our meals meet AAFCO Adult Maintenance nutritional guidelines.
